Um, very many spoilers behind this cut. For the censored version, here's an excerpt from an IM with Ava.
Kaley says:
Seriously, that was one poweful disc.
Kaley says:
I was in shock.
Ava says:
Shock? Why? Would there be spoilers if you said?
Kaley says:
It was violent, metaphorical, shocking...
Kaley says:
It was ART.
Kaley says:
Oh yes. Very many spoilers.
Ava says:
The whole thing's art!
Kaley says:
It elicited a lot more emotion out of me than TV usually does.
Kaley says:
Not crying, but a lot of...
Ava says:
It must've been something superb, then... if it doesn't come on Cartoon Network in the near future I may just buy them from what you've been saying alone...
Ava says:
A lot of what?
Kaley says:
Well, let's just say that I am affirmed in my belief that YYH does NOT belong on a kiddy TV block.
Kaley says:
It was... I was reminded of a quote from Jump's interview with the creator.
Ava says:
What did it say?
Kaley says:
"...has at times shocking violence inspired by horror films."
Kaley says:
Yoshihiro Togashi has a sick, sick mind
Ava says:
Ooh...
Ava says:
People die viciously?
Ava says:
Blood and guts galore?
Kaley says:
They don't even die.
Ava says:
What the?
Kaley says:
Long story./
Ava says:
Are they undead?
Ava says:
(I know, lots of questions...)
Kaley says:
But there's shocking blood, insanity, mild homosexuality...
Kaley says:
I can't explain it without giving up the plot of the entire series.
Ava says:
Yipes. All right, since I don't like spoilers....
Kaley says:
Buy the DVDs, I'm telling you. Overlook Yusuke's bad mouth. Or watch it in Japanese; the subtitles never say anything worse than 'damn' and 'hell'
First off-- THEY KILLED MUROTA! Murota! Murota who did nothing, he was forced by Yusuke and Genkai to take part in the mission. He tracked down Sensui. We learned the name of his Territory/ability: "Tapping." Of course, when Makihara/Toguro says it (HE ATE MUROTA!), it sounds like "Ta-pi-n-gu."
Second off, I don't even wanna think about Makihara's fate. He deserved it on one level, because Murota never hurt anyone! I swear, Murota's fate disturbed me. I thought he was just a one-shot character who we never would hear from again. God, I hope they didn't get Kido. I hope Kido's okay.
Anyway, back to Makihara. Toguro Ani is one sick bastard, but we knew that already. I don't want to think about his fate, either, though I knew it was coming. Sorta.
Kurama was damn scary. Damn scary. It lost it's effect at one point; his face was all polygons, he looked like he was in a video game himself.
Also, I think one of those tricks you see a lot in fanfiction -- clenching your fist until it bleeds -- may originate in that episode. I think Mirai Trunks does it, too, though so it could be either one.
We also got to see about what a sick bastard Sensui is, what an ass Itsuki is-- and he used the word 'lover' to refer to himself and Sensui. Both versions, J-subtitles said 'lover' and English audio did, too.
I still want Itsuki's hair.
Kazuya scared the hell out of me. Refer back to the convo with Ava, horror films. He smashed a butterfly into one of Yusuke's open wounds. That freaked me out.
There were only three humorous parts: Makihara kicking Kuwabara in the head (Kuwa-chan, love ya man, but it was funny), Botan and Genkai admitting they have no clue what's going to happen when Koenma removes his pacifier, and Kuwabara saying that not being able to talk was worse than dying.
I also loved how Koenma appeared just in time, saying one word.
"Shinobu!" I was surprised to hear Koenma use his first name. In the first showdown, he said "Sensui!" But I guess it fits. He doesn't say "Urameshi" either.
And the cover art lies! The cover art shows Koenma w/out pacifier with his powers shining. That was NOT in the DVD.
Next one in August. Damn them to the lowest....!
The whole DVD caused me to write a KuwabaraxKurama fic. The shounen ai was mild/optional (hard to tell which), someone commented Kuwabara was OOC, but that they could ignore it. Heh, I guess they were right. I admit, most of the speech sounded more like Yusuke, but I believe Kuwabara can be that sensitive-- Eikichi, man. The kitty! And Yukina. Which, um, when I wrote the KuraxKuwa I just sort of pretended she didn't exist... eh-heh. I couldn't help it, though it was almost a YusukexKurama. I've only heard of 2 KuwaxKura fics...
And you know what? I am not going to justify myself, 'cause I shouldn't have to. ^_^
Went to Pizza Hut for lunch. Sammy and I met Mommy, who was like an hour late. We were starved, though I ate fast and left faster. My dear bro kept calling me Captain Candyass, so you can see why.
I've written 3 chapters for Cheechron in the last... week? Almost burned out, I haven't even started ch9 yet. Eeyikes. Soon, though.
